It all began with a vision for a building of the future: one that was intelligent and efficient while maximizing comfort for occupants, one that was transparent and could communicate information digitally. With a few proto-boards and a borrowed oscilloscope, Verdigris took root in our founder’s garage.
Our initial quest was simple: ‘listen’ to all the energy using appliances in places we live and work every day. The premise behind our approach is that appliances speak through the wires and every device has a unique electrical signature. We built a system to isolate them in real-time and learn from it. We began to imagine how access to appliance-specific energy information could begin to transform the way we understand our built environment. We could observe patterns in usage behavior. We could categorize energy use beyond a level previously possible. We could predict failures in systems before they occurred. We could help reduce consumption and improve efficiency. We were on to something!
Starting with a simple, hacked-together prototype in a garage, we have grown into a team of talented engineers, developers, and energy experts working out of NASA Ames Research Park, in the heart of Silicon Valley. We share a passion to positively impact the world with technology and we are confident that our energy platform can disrupt the status quo. Come join us!

“Verdigris” is the natural green patina that forms on copper when exposed to the natural elements of the environment. Copper lines are the principal conduits of power to buildings and we at Verdigris are on a mission to “green” the electric grid.
We believe that nothing is impossible, only improbable. We are realists and also recognize the value of timeliness. Complex problems usually require a team solution. We start the discussion. We proactively share, and then share again. Iteration is part and parcel of the journey. Our team questions a lot, but we also listen. Life’s too short for pure drudgery. Work can be fun. Really! |
